The Bookshop

The Bookshop - Penelope Fitzgerald Good book. Easily readable. It moves at a comfortable pace, driven by characters and their interactions more than events. The protagonist is perhaps a bit boring, but her supporting cast is quirky enough to off-set this. Fitzgerald manages to make the reader care about a somewhat minor undertaking - the survival of a small-town bookshop. And then she closes the tale with the skill of a talented story-teller. (And if you've read my other reviews, you might know I'm a stickler for a well-written ending.)
