The Mercy Room
Note: It says in the dust jacket blurb that the gender of the narrator is not revealed, but I thought it was quite clear she's a woman. Anyway, high marks for a strong narrative voice, ease of readability, and sharp focus. Low marks for lack of sexual passion in a book that is supposedly about sexual passion and brevity. It's probably closer to a 4 than a 3. But my general feeling is that it could have been better; not that I really like it.
